Railway cutting at Sonning, Berkshire, by John Bourne, about 1845.
Bourne is best known for his illustrations of railways in the 1830s and 1840s. In 1843 the architect, printer and publisher, Charles Cheffins commissioned Bourne to produce a series of wash drawings of the Great Western Railway. The "History and Description of the Great Western Railway" was published by David Bogue in 1846, and included this illustration.
